Mr David Richards is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Clinical Partner at Newmedica Leeds, Harrogate and Wakefield. He is an expert in complex cataract surgery and modern glaucoma care including medical, laser, and surgical treatments.
Originally from South-East England, Mr Richards pursued his medical education at the University of Leeds, qualifying as a doctor in 2010. His love of Yorkshire kept him in the region.
Deeply committed to modern eye care from the outset of his medical career, he undertook an additional degree and cutting-edge research in neuroscience to further understanding of the eye and visual pathways of the brain. After completing UK-based specialist training in ophthalmology, he completed a surgical fellowship in advanced glaucoma and cataract treatment techniques. He was subsequently appointed as an NHS substantive consultant in West Yorkshire and is the Lead Clinician for ophthalmology in his NHS hospital department. He has extensive experience in the private and independent sectors, working in cataract, glaucoma and general ophthalmology services.
Mr Richards is dedicated to patient-centred care, working closely with individuals to empower them in making informed treatment decisions. He takes pride in tailoring personalised care plans to meet the unique needs of each patient, ensuring they receive the best possible outcomes and satisfaction with their care. Feedback from patients and colleagues alike highlight his compassionate approach to care, communication skills and his expertise in modern treatment options. The audited outcomes of his professional practice are far above national standards, making him a trusted specialist in the field of ophthalmology.
