Consultant Ophthalmologist and Clinical Partner

About

Mr. Moussa is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital (MREH) and Newmedica Manchester. He graduated with his MBChB from Birmingham University and completed his comprehensive ophthalmic training in the West Midlands. To further hone his sub-specialist skills, he undertook two prestigious, advanced surgical retina fellowships at the Birmingham Midland Eye Centre and Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.

Mr. Moussa possesses extensive expertise in the surgical and medical management of complex vitreoretinal diseases. His surgical repertoire encompasses all aspects of modern, small-gauge pars plana vitrectomy. He has a distinct sub-specialist interest in the surgical repair of retinal detachments, macular surgery (including the treatment of macular holes and epiretinal membranes), severe diabetic eye disease, and the surgical management of visual floaters. Alongside his VR expertise, Mr. Moussa is highly skilled in both routine and complex cataract surgery, with a particular focus on managing surgical complications and complex lens implant problems, such as decentred or dislocated intraocular lenses.

Complementing his clinical and surgical acumen is a deeply academic background. Mr. Moussa has published over 70 papers in peer-reviewed ophthalmic journals and has been recognised with numerous awards for his research contributions.

With his extensive surgical training and active research involvement, patients can be confident they are receiving the most up-to-date and evidence-based care. Mr. Moussa is committed to a holistic, compassionate approach, ensuring excellent communication so that patients are fully involved and comfortable throughout their treatment journey.

Away from his clinical and academic commitments, Mr. Moussa is a keen musician who plays the piano and guitar, and he enjoys staying active through hiking and scuba diving.
