Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

What is intense pulsed light (IPL)

Intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that uses controlled pulses of light to target the root cause of dry eye, helping to restore long-term comfort and improve eye health.

What causes dry eye syndrome?

Dry eye syndrome occurs when the eyes don’t produce enough tears, or when tears evaporate too quickly. This can lead to symptoms such as dryness, irritation, grittiness, watering, and blurred vision. Common causes include, Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), ageing, hormonal changes, screen use, contact lenses, health conditions and medication.

How does intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment help?

Our advanced IPL technology targets the underlying cause of dry eye, particularly Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). Precise pulses of light are applied to the skin around the eyes, helping to:

  • Unblock and restore the function of the meibomian glands

  • Encourage the natural release of oils that stabilise the tear film

  • Reduce inflammation around the eyes Improve overall tear quality and eye comfort

By treating the root cause, IPL provides longer-lasting relief compared to traditional treatments such as eye drops.

How much does intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment cost?

If you’re interested in IPL treatment, the cost is £200 per session with an initial assessment cost of £195.

Please note, you may require multiple sessions for the treatment, and this will be reviewed by your consultant.
