I have been a consultant ophthalmologist since 2010, initially serving communities in County Durham followed by Bradford. I am a highly-experienced cataract surgeon and perform all levels of complex cataract procedures on a regular basis, completing over 800 per year. I also have fellowship training in glaucoma as well as cornea and refractive surgery.
Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, I obtained my medical and surgical degrees from The University of the West Indies before I migrated to the UK at the turn of the millennium to pursue a career in ophthalmology.
My postgraduate training was undertaken in the North Thames, South Thames and Yorkshire and Humber Deaneries. During this time, I worked at Moorfields Eye Hospital and St James’ University Hospital while also performing clinical and laboratory research at the Institute of Ophthalmology at Moorfields and King’s College London.
I also have a keen interest in teaching and have lectured in a variety of subjects to third-year medical students at University College London and Royal Free Hospital. Alongside this, I am the College Tutor at Bradford Royal Infirmary and continue to teach and guide young ophthalmologists in training to help them achieve their goals.
I am a consultant ophthalmologist, vitreoretinal and cataract surgeon and medical retina specialist at Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) and Newmedica Eye Hospital – Leeds.
I have received comprehensive general ophthalmic surgical post graduate training from North of Scotland where I was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) and received Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) from General Medical Council. I then moved to Canada to receive extensive sub-specialised fellowship training in dual fields of medical and surgical retina at University of Toronto, which has the largest and busiest retina department in all of North America. After successfully completing fellowship, I returned in 2019 and joined as a consultant at BRI.
My expertise is in the management of retinal conditions like diabetic eye disease, retinal detachments, retinal vein occlusions and macular diseases e.g. agerelated macular degeneration (AMD), macular holes and epiretinal membranes.
Outside work, I like spending time with my young family and enjoy country walks.
