Everything you need to know about your NHS treatment with us

Who is entitled to receive NHS eye care treatment?

You’ll be entitled to get NHS-funded treatment with us if you usually (and lawfully) live in England, which means you’re known as 'ordinarily resident'.

NHS treatment at Newmedica

The NHS now offers you a choice of where you’d like to receive your NHS-funded treatment to help you make the best choices for your circumstances and give you greater control of your care. We provide services for NHS ICBs, NHS Trusts and Foundation Trusts, and other providers of NHS-funded services across England.

We work in partnership with the NHS to provide specialist treatment and care for a range of eye conditions. So, whichever eye condition you need treatment for, we're here to take care of you.

What treatments are available on the NHS?

Please contact your closest Newmedica clinic to find out if a particular service is available as an NHS treatment. Depending on which clinic you go to, some treatments may be private only.

General ophthalmology

Sometimes an eye condition doesn’t fall perfectly into a specific category, which is where our general ophthalmology clinics can help. Our team of eye specialists will be able to fully assess your eye health and decide on the best treatment options for your individual needs.

How do I become an NHS patient

If your optician or GP suspects or diagnoses you with an eye condition, such as cataracts, they will explain all your treatment options and where you can receive care on the NHS.

If you choose Newmedica for your cataract treatment or surgery, just let them know, and they’ll arrange your referral in line with the locally commissioned NHS pathway.

How do I get referred to Newmedica

If your optician or GP suspects or diagnoses you with an eye condition, they’ll explain all the treatment options, as well as where you can choose to receive your treatment. If you’d like to choose Newmedica, just let them know and they’ll make all the arrangements for your referral.

Why Newmedica are the right choice for your eye care

Our clinics are owned and led by the consultant doctors who care for you. For them it’s personal. The whole team are dedicated to understanding your needs so they can provide you with the best possible experience and we know this also results in measurably better outcomes.

Our personalised patient eye care will make you feel comfortable and at ease. We’ll give you a warm welcome, hold your hand if you’re nervous and be there for you throughout your time with us.

Our short waiting times mean you’ll have your first eye appointment within a couple of weeks, and we aim to complete your eye treatment within eight weeks of your referral.

We choose to use the highest-quality lenses which means you’ll get the best clinical outcomes, including some that can reduce your dependence on glasses. Importantly, we’ll always give you a choice and explain the options.

State-of-the-art facilities with the latest equipment, and free parking ensure you can focus on you and your eye health when you come to visit us.

What to expect after being referred

Once we receive your referral from your optician or GP, we’ll be in touch with you within a few days to book you an appointment. Depending on the clinic you go to, our waiting times can vary, but we aim to see you within four weeks of receiving your referral.

How you can prepare for your NHS referral

Did you know that NHS patients have the legal right to choose who provides their care? You have the power to choose which NHS or independent clinic like Newmedica delivers your care.

You also have the right, if you’re on an NHS waiting list, to ask to go to a different hospital or clinic if it’s able to start your treatment sooner.

At Newmedica, our waiting times are short.
