Being referred as a private patient to Newmedica is simple. Whether you’re paying for your own treatment or using your private medical insurance, we’ll make it a stress-free process.

Paying for your treatment yourself means you don’t have to be referred by your optician or GP (though, of course, we do accept their referrals). Simply get in touch with your choice of clinic by phone or email and we’ll arrange the rest.
Once you've decided to have your treatment with us – either by referral or self-pay – we'll get in touch to arrange your pre-assessment appointment a few days after we receive your referral.
If you're having private cataract surgery, we'll talk you through the lens options and what might work best for your lifestyle and specific needs. Find out more about lens choices here.
If you want to go ahead, we’ll book you in. Your surgery will typically be within two weeks.
We're proud to be recognised by the main private medical insurance companies. We are accredited by the following:
If you’re using private medical insurance, you might need some more information to make your claim. So please do check with your insurer first to see if they need a referral from your GP or optician to authorise your treatment.
It’s also worth checking to see if you have an excess on your policy, an annual outpatient charge limit, or outpatient cover regardless of admission to hospital.
First, you should double check with your insurer that you’re covered for the treatment you need. If you already know that you’re covered, you can be referred to us by your GP, optician or you can refer yourself.
Once we receive your referral, we’ll contact you to organise an initial assessment. We'll give you all the details of your potential treatment or surgery, so you can send them to your insurer to check that you’re covered. We’ll also give you the details of your potential surgery, which you can send to your insurer to check against your coverage.
Depending on the treatment type selected and the insurance cover available within each individual policy, some patients might have to pay top up fees in addition to the amount covered by their insurance company. If this applies to you, we'll discuss it with you before your treatment.
